Abstract
It has been reported that vitamin B6 and tannin have an antibacterial effect. The purpose of this study is to know the growth rate & the adherence of Streptococcus mutans 10499 and cell viability on human gingival fibroblast by vitamin B6 and
tannin.
Growth rate was measured by optical density, adherence was calculated from the weight before and after washing the tube, and the cell viability was measured by growth and proliferation assay.
The growth of Streptococcus mutans 10499 in the absence of tannin was more than that in the presence of tannin irrespective of their concentration. The growth of Streptococcus mutans 10449 in the 10mg/ml of tannin was less than that in the 1mg/ml
of
tannin.
The growth of Streptococcus mutans 10449 in the presence of vitamin B6 and tannin was more than that in the presence of vitamin B6 irrespective of their concentration.
The adherence in the presence of vitamin B6 and tannin was not different from that in the absence of vitamin B6 and tannin irrespective of their concentration. The cell viability of human gingival fibroblast was not affected by vitamin B6 and
tannin
irrespective of their concentration.
There results suggest that tannin solution might have an growth inhibitory effect of Streptococcus mutans 10449 and have no effect on human gingival fibroblast. Further study is needed to know the in-vivo effect of vitamin B6 and tannin solution.
